Salt Lake Symphonic Choir
Organized in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1949, the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir was led to international acclaim
by Armont Willardsen, the founder and original motivating force behind the Choir. Mr. Willardsen served
as the Director for the first 27 years. For the next 31 years the Choir was directed by George A. Welch.
Dr. Michael Huff led the Choir for the 2007-2009 seasons. The Current Director is Erin Pike-Tall.
The Salt Lake Symphonic Choir is unique in that it is completely independent and funded solely by
concert performances and foundation grants. In its 60 plus years of performing, the Choir has toured
in excess of 200,000 miles and presented more than 900 concerts throughout the United States, Canada,
Russia and Armenia, performing for civic music series, cultural organizations, colleges, universities and
community groups. Typically singing with appriximately 100 members, the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir is one of
the largest traveling choirs in America performing on the professional concert circuit, Its members are
committed to the performing arts and choral singing is their primary avocation.
- Performed 33 national and international concert tours.
- Performed Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Victoria Symphony in British Columbia.
- Featured in a Human Rights Day Concert in San Francisco with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra.
- Performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Utah Centennial Celebration in 1996.
- Sang at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree in Washington D.C. in 1996.
- Invited to represent the United States in Yerevan, Armenia for the 1700th Anniversary
Celebration of Christianity in September 2001.
- Participated in the Cultural Olympiad as part of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
- Toured and performed in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia and the Cities of Yerevan, Garni and Gyumri, Armenia.
- Performed as part of the rededication of the Utah State Capitol Building in January of 2008.

Erin Pike Tall, M.M. - Choral Conductor
Joining the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir in
the 2007-08 season, Ms. Erin Tall is proud
to shape and maintain the fine choral
standard long held by this ensemble. She
holds both a bachelorís degree in Choral
Music Education and a Masterís degree in
Choral Conducting from the University of
As the Director of Choirs at Cottonwood
High School in Salt Lake City from 1999 to
2010, Ms. Tall had the opportunity to work
with thousands of students and directors in
concert venues throughout the state of
Utah, California, Nevada, and Washington. She served as an assistant conductor,
accompanist, and vocal soloist for the Salt Lake Choral Artists under the direction of
Dr. Brady Allred. She worked during the summers of 2007 and 2008 at the New York
State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSA) in Fredonia, New York serving as
conductor, theory teacher, and accompanist with high school students. Ms. Tall
performed with the Utah Chamber Artists under the direction of Barlow Bradford and
with the Deseret Chamber Singers as a singer and accompanist.
She served as the Utah All State High School Choir accompanist, having worked under
the baton of renowned conductors Randall Stroope (Oklahoma State University), Ann
Howard Jones (Boston University), James Jordan (Westminster Choir College), Mac
Wilberg (Mormon Tabernacle Choir), Geoffrey Boers (University of Washington), and
Lynn Gackle (Texas State University). Ms. Tall accompanied for the national ACDA
convention in California. She has served as an adjudicator/clinician throughout Utah,
California, and Nevada. She has presented lectures in the Vocal Trade Secrets
Workshop in Park City and the Utah Music Educatorís Conference in St. George.
Much of Ms. Tallís early career was spent as director and organist for choirs and
congregations in the LDS church and as Chancel Choir director for the First
Congregational Church. She spent her undergraduate studies as an accompanist,
student conductor, and president for the University of Utah Concert Chorale under the
direction of Dr. John M. Cooksey and as a singer and student conductor for Dr. Edgar
Thompson in the AíCappella Choir. She toured Europe with both choirs. She served
the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) as Senate President and as
senator for the College of Fine Arts from 1997 to 1999. Ms. Tall maintains a private
vocal studio, accompanies vocal and instrumental soloists all over Utah, and regularly
does clinics with choirs throughout the intermountain west. She is married to Michael
Tall and has four beautiful children.
